Quranic Readings Course: Mastering the Art of the Ten Readings with Yaqeen School
The pursuit of knowledge in Quranic readings is a noble endeavor, as it is related to the words of God Almighty. Quranic readings have principles (Usul) and variations (Furush). Usul are the fixed rules that the reader follows, while Furush are the variations.
So, what are the Quranic readings?
The Quranic readings are based on how the ten Imams (of Qira’at) pronounced the Quran as they heard it. These readings have a long history that goes back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and include the readings of Nafi’, Asim, and others.

- The ten minor and major readings in the text are Nafi’, Ibn Kathir, Abu Amr, Ibn Amir, Asim, Hamzah, Al-Kisa’i, Abu Ja’far, Yaqub, and Khalaf al-Ashir.
Through this course, the biographies of the Imams, the principles, the variations, and the technical terms are studied.

It demonstrates the ultimate eloquence, the perfection of the miraculous nature of the Quran, the extreme conciseness, and the beauty of brevity. This is explained by the fact that each reading is like a verse, and the variation of wording with a single word is equivalent to several verses. If every word were a verse, it would be lengthy and deviate from the norms and methods of Arabic rhetoric.
The virtue of learning the readings and narrations:
Learning the Quranic readings and narrations is desirable and a legally required matter. It is considered a communal obligation (Fard Kifayah), as it carries within it immense goodness and reward. In the Sahihayn (Bukhari and Muslim), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “The best of you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it.”
Conditions for Enrolling in the Readings Course:
- Memorization of the entire Holy Quran.
- The student should ideally hold certification in one of the following narratives: Hafs, Warsh, or Qalun.
